Projects In Knowledge® CEO Named to PharmaVoice 100
Robert Stern Voted One of 2009’s 100 Most Inspiring and Influential
People in Life Sciences

Little Falls, New Jersey—August 10, 2009—Robert S. Stern, CCMEP, the CEO, president, and founder of Projects In Knowledge (www.projectsinknowledge.com), has been named to the 2009 PharmaVOICE 100 list of the most influential, creative, and inspiring people in the life sciences industry. As the head of this long-established, fully accredited developer of online continuing medical education (CME/CE) programs, Stern received accolades for his astute vision and innovation in melding “sound educational design, adult learning principles, and technology to create a fresh, new approach to CME.”

The PharmaVOICE 100 list is sponsored by PharmaVOICE.com (www.pharmavoice.com), a website targeted to executives and other professionals from the life sciences, healthcare, and related industries. Each year, readers are invited to identify and nominate individuals who demonstrate positive influence and motivation within various segments of the life sciences industry, including corporate leadership, research and development, technology, creativity, marketing, and business strategies. The complete list of 100 winners appears in the July/August 2009 issue.

“It is an honor to be included in the PharmaVOICE 100 alongside such a stellar group of industry leaders,” Stern said. “Throughout my career, I’ve had the pleasure of working with so many talented people whose efforts, passions, and dedication have fueled my own accomplishments and successes. To these exceptional individuals and everyone else who deemed me worthy of this distinction, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude,” he added.

A medical education innovator for more than 30 years, Stern pioneered the use of distance-learning technologies and self-directed study, creating a rich array of medical programming at Projects In Knowledge. Early on, he recognized the importance of delivering timely and relevant CME/CE activities in a variety of formats, enabling each learner to tailor the educational experience to meet his or her own unique needs and preferred learning styles. In another example of his knack for anticipating trends rather than reacting to them, Stern long ago established a peer-review process to assure clinicians that the information they are reading is scientifically valid, relevant, timely, and free of commercial bias—today, a commonplace practice among competing CME/CE providers.

In March 2005, Stern founded MedPage Today® (www.medpagetoday.com), a web-based provider of real-time, 24/7, breaking medical news, scientific meeting coverage, and other resources for medical professionals, who can also earn CME/CE credits by reading the news and conducting point-of-care searches.

Today, Stern continues to research, embrace, and incorporate the latest technological advances into virtually every aspect of his companies. His unwavering mission is to improve the quality of healthcare in the United States and abroad by delivering the highest quality professional education and information, with demonstrated results, to physicians and other clinical professionals using creative, effective, and easily accessible instructional modalities.

Previously, he was president of CMEinfo.com, a producer of board review and medical update courses for physicians, and the start-up investor and co-founder of FingerTip Formulary, a website that allows physicians and other healthcare professionals to determine formulary drug status for health plans. In addition, Stern is the editor of Genome, the first anthology devoted to exploring how the human genome was mapped.

Stern graduated from the Film School at New York University (Tisch School of the Arts at NYU) and earned his master’s degree in education with an emphasis on medical communications from NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.
