CEO and Six Staff Members Earn CCMEP Designation—January 2009

Projects In Knowledge® is pleased to announce that CEO and President Robert Stern and six additional staff members have earned the Certified CME Professional (CCMEP) designation. All seven successfully completed the requirements of the National Commission for Certification of CME Professionals (NC-CME) credentialing program, which culminated in their passing the final examination held in December 2008.

"Having seven Projects In Knowledge team members with the CCMEP credential demonstrates our ongoing commitment to creating CME programs that are of the highest quality," said Stern. "I am extremely proud of the team's efforts in achieving this milestone."

Created as a means to verify the knowledge and skills of CME staff and providers, the NC-CME certification program was launched in 2008 as a response to closer scrutiny by the government, the public, and the CME profession that is placing increasing pressure on the medical education industry and their funding sources to validate the integrity of CME programs. The final examination enables CME providers to monitor and document their ability to be compliant with national guidelines developed by groups such as the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (HHS OIG). The CCMEP credential is valid for 3 years.

"The CME industry is facing increased scrutiny from legislators and the public on many levels, including the source of funding, potential conflicts of interest, and the quality of medical education initiatives," said Stern. "In this changing industry climate, it is more essential than ever for CME providers to prove their competency, knowledge, and skills in all key areas of continuing medical education."
