CNE: 1.25 hours
CPE: 1.25 hours
Target Audience
This activity is designed for infectious disease specialists who specialize in and care for patients with HIV and HCV.
Activity Goal
The goal of this activity is to address clinicians’ needs for information on current and future treatments for patients with chronic HCV and strategies to improve patient outcomes while focusing on the translation of an infectious disease and its complications for the liver.
Learning Objective (s)
- Compare similarities and differences between the management of HIV and chronic HCV infection to ensure optimal treatment strategies for patients with chronic HCV.
- Assess the importance of screening and diagnosing all patients at risk for chronic HCV infection in order to implement interventions that minimize or prevent morbidity and mortality of HCV-related liver disease and improve patient outcomes.
- Utilize current anti-HCV treatment strategies for achieving viral eradication in HCV-infected patients by analyzing the rate of sustained virologic response for current regimens and factors associated with response, including the IL28B gene.
- Evaluate the potential of anti-HCV therapeutic strategies for improving treatment response and outcomes in chronically HCV-infected patients by analyzing preliminary efficacy and safety data and duration of treatment of emerging therapies.
