Learning Objectives

This activity is designed for oncologists who treat patients with breast cancer. After participating in this activity, oncologists will be better able to:

  • Define new directions in adjuvant and neoadjuvant therapies for women with advanced breast cancer

  • Compare and contrast the role of various endocrine therapies in inhibiting the growth of breast tumors and the mechanisms of these therapies in the treatment of breast cancers

  • Recognize the benefits and risks of endocrine therapies, including aromatase inhibitors and antiestrogens when formulating treatment plans for patients with metastatic breast cancer

  • Discuss nonendocrine options and issues associated with chemotherapy and biologic therapy for metastatic breast cancer

  • Consider strategies to improve bone health and reduce symptoms in breast cancer patients with bone metastases
