Learning Objectives

This activity is designed for clinical specialists with a fundamental clinical understanding of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with hepatitis C.

After participating in this activity, the physician should be able to:

  • Describe the current standard of care for treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection using combination therapy

  • Discuss emerging improvements in treatment for HCV and HCV/HIV coinfection based on study results and their implications from clinical trials using pegylated interferon/ribavirin combination therapy and pegylated interferon monotherapy

  • Describe potential approaches to treatment, including dosing strategies and duration of treatment, that incorporate pegylated interferon into established standards of care
