Hepatitis B Update: New Insights from EASL
- Part 1 of 5

Dear Colleague,

The 41st Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) held in Vienna, Austria last April was an international gathering of the thought leaders in the field of hepatitis B. The general and parallel sessions delivered a wealth of cutting-edge research findings that will contribute now and over time to the refinement of our state-of-the-science therapeutic protocols for hepatitis B. Discussed within this newsletter are abstracts from that meeting that represent the most relevant data for today's practicing clinicians. Ongoing studies of approved anti-HBV agents, such as adefovir, (peg)interferon, and entecavir, have been extended and are yielding long-term efficacy and safety data, as well as resistance data. Agents still in development, such as telbivudine, pradefovir, and tenofovir, are progressing through the clinical development process and are accruing their foundational data. These are the developments that will most influence how we will treat HBV infection in our patients.

This Tx Reporter, "Hepatitis B Update: New Insights from EASL" is the first in a five-part series, Hepatitis B Case Files: Expert Strategies to Optimize Therapeutic Outcomes. Altogether, these five online newsletters represent one course in the Advanced Certificate Program II: Management of Chronic Hepatitis B. Watch your e-mail for a notice announcing the posting of the next issue.

Thank you for joining us!

Sincerely,

CHAIR
